Hun, getting this person out of your life is an important step toward getting your life back on track sugar, but the hardest part is going to come afterward, cleaning up the mess the two of you made together. Your divorce will proceed at its normal pace, with a few small wrinkles in the way. DO NOT, whatever you do, decide to be petty and make him 'Pay' for what has happened between the two of you. No one is totally at fault here, no one is blameless. Unless he makes outrageous, unreasonable demands that are completely unacceptable(and I'm getting the feeling that he's wanting out as badly as you do... he already has a lil some-some lined up), then let the court system make its decision... usually about 6 to 8 weeks from filing to final. If you use this as an opportunity for some revenge, you WILL regret it.

As soon as you realize that you have no real cause for bitterness towards him, you will get over him. If he was, in fact, a 'jerk', then be glad he is gone and move on, happy that you are free of him. If, however, you are simply angry that he broke up with you, or angry that what he did led you to break up with him, then you have quite a while before you will truly be over him. The only real endings are happy endings. If you are anything but happy with the way things finally turn out, then you are still suffering whatever you were suffering to begin with, and it's not over yet, you are still in the story and it won't end until you release it. As far as 'when' do I see this happening? A rough time frame is around six to nine months, but in the mean time you will have another relationship that you will ruin by harping on the old one, which is a shame because if you could release what you are going through, it could be good for you (the relationship, that is). I see potential in it that you will squander with your bitterness towards Terry, and your suspicion that the new relationship will just be more of the same. the advice I'm going to offer is not merely psychic advice, it is practical good-sense advice as well. My advice to you is very simple, continue on your job search while you apply and wait for a decision on disability. When you apply, I will tell you now, I see about a 95% probability that you will get turned down on the first attempt. Do not give up. That sends the entirely wrong message to the future adjudicator, who will examine how hard you have tried to get disability, as well as your physical condition. Giving up on first attempt is like saying to him or her (most of them are male) "Well, I thought I'd see if I could get a little check from the government...it's not really that bad, I'll go back to work after all". Disability for back problems is the second biggest source of fraudulent disability claims in the system, right behind Mental and Emotional dysfunction, and is notoriously difficult to be approved for, keep fighting. In the meantime, show the initiative and keep looking for a job. Looking for a job does not disqualify you from being approved and can send the right message to the adjudicator... it says to them "even though I'm in pain and suffering constantly, I'm willing to work if I can". If you do find a job and can not hold it because of your back issues, document every single time you have to call into work, visit the doctor, leave work early, whatever may happen due to your back that impedes the work... EVERYTHING. This shows the judge that you are trying and gives them a very favorable impression of you, and your character. If you find a job and DO hold it, still document EVERY TIME your health issues interfere, even if it is only in a journal that has times and dates...things that can be investigated and confirmed by future judges should the problems become too severe in the future. I am NOT in any way, shape, form or fashion even implying that you are not truly in need of disability, merely giving you advice. The very instant a judge sees 'back problems' on the application, you will have an uphill battle. It is best to arm yourself ahead of time to be prepared for the fight to come. As far as seeing you getting a new job... it is a murky issue right now, as though there are decisions in the making or yet to be made which will have an impact on the outcome. I realize that this is by-and-large almost a non-answer, but it is the best I can offer right now, and I apologize in advance. I have offered what help I can, and I wish you the greatest of fortune in your future.

p.s. I sense other issues in the mix that also impede your ability to hold a steady job, include them in your application as well, anything and everything related to your physical and mental health that interferes with your work... ANYTHING. Even if you do not get Social Security for a bad back, your chances will be dramatically improved by multiple conditions which, taken all together, will prevent you from holding gainful employment. Even if it's Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, TMJ disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, anything that adds to your difficulty in getting and keeping a job, because the judge will look at multiple conditions and consider the amount of time you will be spending seeking medical (or otherwise) attention for the problems... even if you suffer from documented severe insomnia, fibromyalgia, anything that you have to get help for.

As far as anything pursuing further, yes, I see it happening, as far as anything DEVELOPING further, I believe it to be exceedingly doubtful, because one of you has trust issues, and the other has a need for space, and unless you BOTH work very hard at the matter, it will fail. End of sentence. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Things will seem exciting at the outset, but the issues will get tiresome quickly, and one of you will snap and get out of Dodge before sundown...

I don't feel that you have necessarily harmed yourself financially by staying where you are, and your vibes feel as though you are happy in your present circumstances, or as happy as you can be at any rate, but, I also don't think that 'happiness' is what you are most concerned with. You could have been better monetarily off with a move, but it would have caused other problems that you aren't necessarily prepared to have dealt with. In short, you made the best choice you could have to avoid further difficulties. Things are going to start turning around for you during the next 6 to 8 months. I recommend beginning a savings account, and taking that holiday you have been discussing with your spouse,(after you have saved up enough for it) it will do you both a world of good, and it feels as though you may get a pleasant surprise as a result of it.
